Women's Track and Field Competes at Quad Meet

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend women's track and field team competed at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

In the pole vault, Victoria Harwood (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven), Angela Sweeney (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial), and Nicole Teribery (Bradford, PA/Bradford) all had great performances.  Harwood tied for first place with a height of 3.13m.  Sweeney and Teribery tied for third with each hitting a height of 2.98m.

Katie Monoskey (Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney) won the hammer throw.  The senior thrower hit a distance of 41.40m.  She also competed in the discus throw, taking second after clearing 35.54m.  April McDermott (Atco, NJ/Hammonton) took third in the discus throw finishing just behind Monoskey at 33.62m.

Stephanie Stoughton (Chicora, PA/Karns City) competed in the javelin, placing fifth at 30.85m.

Back on the track, Catie Bertges (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) and Haley Hughes (Cochranton, PA/Cochranton) led the way in the 3000m run.  The duo placed first and second respectively with times of 11:01.84 and 11:04.94.

Harwood had a busy day on the track after the pole vault.  Harwood took fourth in the 200m run and fifth in the 100m run.  She ran the 200m in 27.85 and the 100m in 13.66.  Sweeney also competed in a running event.  She took fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:11.94.

Jamie Szramowski (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) had a top-five performance as well for the Lions.  The sophomore runner completed in the 110m hurdles in 18.00 for fifth place.

Behrend will be back in action on Saturday at the Westminster Invite.  Start time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
