The Penn State Behrend Lions recently announced the 2009-2010 Female Athlete Award Winners.  The Behrend Lion Athletic Staff and athletes gathered for their annual Athlete Awards picnic to announce the winners.

Penn State Behrend seniors Danielle Wilson (Pittsburgh/Plum) and Brooke Gallentine (Mt.Pleasant/Southmoreland) were both named Behrend Co-Athlete of the Year for their hard-work and commitment to excellence throughout their respective seasons'.  Wilson was a two-sport athlete who competed in both water polo and swimming and Gallentine was part of a volleyball team that finished second in the AMCC and earned an ECAC bid.  This year's female Scholar Athlete of the Year went to senior cross country runner Roxanne Alsbury (Kingston, Md./Cameron). 

Wilson was a standout swimmer who contributed to her team in many ways.  She was a leader by example and displayed what it takes to compete at a high level.  She was a first-team All-AMCC selection in the 200 free relay as well as the 800 free relay.  Wilson would take second-team honors in the 500 freestyle and the 200 freestyle events.  She also showed her talents in the pool as one of the key performers for the water polo team.  She made everyone around her better and taught the underclassmen how to succeed at this level of play.

Gallentine was a star on the volleyball court from day one and showed that off throughout her four years.  She had a career record of 94-36 and went on to capture the ECAC South title in 2008.  Gallentine, a senior setter for the blue and white, was named to the all-conference team each of her four seasons.  In 2009 Gallentine posted 1,024 assists to push her career total to 4,170, good for second place all-time at Behrend.  She has also collected 1,226 digs in her career, good for eighth place all-time at Behrend.

Alsbury was a biology major who is a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha.  She excelled on the field as well as in the classroom and was a leader with her teammates.
