ERIE, Pa.  – Jessica Woods tallied 18 kills and Mary Sperry had 46 digs to help the Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team win a pair of matches on Saturday in the Junker Center.

The Lions continue their winning ways with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-14) decision over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) opponent Franciscan, before recording a 3-1 (25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 25-15) victory against Ursuline to make it eight straight wins.

Danielle Woods, celebrating senior day, added 39 digs and Carly Higham dished out 37 assists on the day.

In the first game against the Barons, Behrend (16-10, 5-2 AMCC) was forced to take a time out after Franciscan used two aces by Alyssa Wappes for its first lead of the match at 14-12. The Lions came out of the break and won the next 13 out of 17 points for the 25-18 win. Treser was instrumental in the victory with tallied five kills and a block.

The Lions did not give the Barons a chance to compete in game two. Behrend jumped out to a 7-2 edge thanks to four attack errors and steadily built upon its lead and pulling ahead 22-13. Tory Storino and Kelly Treser each tallied a kill in the final five points to win 25-14.

In the final game, the Lions never trailed Franciscan and went on a 7-0 run to end the match. Jessica Woods started the spurt with a kill and also added a block, while Lexy Weissinger knocked in the last point.

Against Ursuline, Behrend jumped out in front 2-0 but the Arrows made the most of game three winning 25-21 before the Lions could put them away in the fourth, 25-15.

In game one, Behrend recorded four aces including two by Sperry in the last five points for a 25-18 victory. The second game was much like the first. The Lions won 12 points from kills with four coming from J. Woods.

The Arrows attempted a comeback in game three. Ursuline managed to keep a two point lead down the stretch. At 22-20, Storino posted the final Behrend point on a kill and the rest would be earned by the Arrows to make it 2-1.

The beginning of the fourth game was a see-saw battle until the Lions broke a 12-all tie with a Alyssa Pears kill to spark a 13-3 run for the match. Storino served out the final five points, collecting two aces and getting a kill and a block from J. Woods.

Storino finished with 11 kills and Sperry made 26 digs in the win over Ursuline.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against Medaille. Match time is 7 p.m.
