ERIE, Pa. – Stephanie Kelley recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs to lead the Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team past Fredonia 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-20) in non-conference action on Tuesday night.

The Lions (10-10) evened their record with the win and have won the last five out of six matches. Kelley surpassed 1,000 digs for her career over the weekend and with her performance tonight sits at 1,077.

Chelsea Magnusen dished out 12 assists and Danielle Woods added 16 digs, while Jessica Woods was strong at the net with five blocks.

Behrend held as much as a nine-point lead in the first game at 23-14 and won on a Blue Devil (17-8) service error. Down 15-12 in game two, Carly Higham and Kelley each had an ace amongst a 6-1 run to take the lead and hold on for good at 19-16. After a Mary Sperry kill, Fredonia was forced to take a time out at 22-18. A service error, block by Kelly Treser and a kill from Kelley secured the game-two win at 25-20.

In the third game, the Lions were down by only two points and used a 6-0 run to take their first lead at 12-8. Behrend kept the lead the remainder of the match with Fredonia only getting within two points. Woods served four straight points, while Sperry and then a kill by Woods after a long rally put the Lions up 21-14. The Blue Devils tried to rally back, but the Lions were too much and Kelley knocked down a kill for the final match point at 25-20.

The Lions return to action tomorrow night against D’Youville, beginning at 7 p.m.
