ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend volleyball team opens the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) playoffs tonight with their sights set on a third conference title.
The Lions will face sixth-seeded Mt. Aloysius at 7 p.m. in the Junker Center for the AMCC quarterfinals. Behrend secured the No. 3 seed last week in a 3-0 win over Medaille on Wednesday night. The winner of tonight’s match will advance to the semifinals and face No. 2 Penn State Altoona at 8 p.m. at top-seed Pitt-Bradford.
The Lions are looking for their third overall AMCC crown and first since the 2005 season. Behrend has the momentum of a 10-match winning streak heading into tonight’s contest. In the regular-season matchup between Behrend and Mt. Aloysius on Oct. 30, the Lions defeated the Mounties 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-7).
Tonight, Behrend will look to Mary Sperry and Kelly Treser, who lead the team with 239 and 225 kills, respectively. Danielle Woods continues her defensive dominance with 521 digs this season, while Carly Higham surpassed the 500 mark in assists with 519.
