The Penn State Behrend volleyball team was informed Monday that it had been selected as one of the representatives in the ECAC South Tournament. The blue and white's record on the year is 22-10 and has been selected as the four seed in the South bracket. The Behrend Lions are the defending champions entering the tournament after defeating Cabrini a year ago.
Behrend posted an AMCC regular season record of 8-2 and received
the two seed in the AMCC tournament. The blue and white
defeated both D'Youville and Pitt-Bradford before falling to
Frostburg State in the championship match.
As the four seed, Behrend will will battle the fifth seeded St.
Vincent Bearcats (22-10) on Wednesday, November 11, at 7:00 p.m. in
the Junker Center.
Head coach Phil Pisano said, "We're excited for the ECAC bid and
the oppurtunity to keep our season going. The ECAC Tournament
was a great experience for the program last year, and hopefully we
will have another strong showing. Saint Vincent is
well-coached, has some very athletic players, and will be a tough
opponent. We will need to be sharp right from the opening
serve to advance beyond Wednesday."
Two other AMCC teams are being represented as Pitt-Bradford (18-5)
grabbed the seventh seed and will battle Gallaudet (24-14) while
Penn State Altoona (17-14) is the eight seed and will face off
against the top seed in DeSales (21-8). Also, Widener (21-15)
is the third seed and will play the sixth seed Swarthmore (19-10).
Seniors Brooke Gallentine (Mt.Pleasant/Southmoreland) and Sheila Ogden (Grove City/Grove City) lead a powerful Behrend attack as Gallentine leads the team in assists with 954 at 9.35 assists per game and Ogden leads the squad with 268 kills. Junior Danielle Woods (Pittsburgh/Baldwin) surpassed the 1,000 dig plateau earlier in the season and leads the team with 376 on the season.
