Lions Finish 3-1 at Gallaudet; Treser Named to All-Tournament Team

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – The Penn State Behrend volleyball team defeated Emerson 3-1 and dropped a 3-1 decision to Catholic to finish with a 3-1 record at the Gallaudet Tournament, tying for the best record of the weekend.

N.C. Wesleyan were named the tournament champions and the hosts claimed runner-up, both posting a 3-1 record. Kelly Treser was named to the All-Tournament Team thanks to her 25 kills and four block performance today.

The Lions (9-10) fell in the first match of the day to Catholic, 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 27-29, 23-25) to finish second in their pool and face the second place team in the other pool, Emerson. Treser knocked down 16 kills and Mary Sperry tallied 13 kills. Stef Kelley had a team-high 35 digs, while Jessica Woods hit double-digits in kills with 10.

Behrend won its third match of the weekend over Emerson, winning the first game 25-23 and losing the second 25-21. The Lions won the next two 25-20 and 25-19. Sperry paced the squad with 18 kills and Kelley added 22 digs and five aces. Danielle Woods matched Kelley’s aces with five and contributed 12 digs.

Carly Higham handed out 35 assists in the win.

Behrend returns to action on Tuesday against Fredonia. The non-conference match begins at 7 p.m.
