The Penn State Behrend Lions improved to 4-1 in AMCC play with a 3-0, win over the visiting Pitt-Bradford Panthers on Wednesday, October 7, in front of almost 200 fans in the Junker Center. The game was televised on Image Sports.
The Panthers raced out to a 7-1 lead before Behrend was forced to call a time out. The blue and white immediately responded with three straight points out of the break to make it 7-4. Behrend then went on an 11-4 run to take its first lead of the evening. The set was nip and tuck before the Behrend Lions pulled away in the 25-20 victory. In game two, Behrend won 25-16 and then claimed the match by virtue of a 27-25 decision in set three.
Senior Sheila Ogden (Grove City/Grove City) surpassed the 1,000 kills plateau with six kills Wednesday night, and senior setter Brooke Gallentine (Mt.Pleasant/Southmoreland) registered 28 assists and 12 digs.
"I am pleased that our players performed well under pressure in a big AMCC match," said Head Coach Phil Pisano. "We received important contributions from a number of players and it was nice to earn a win in a match when Sheila reached a significant milestone."
Mary Sperry (Atlantic/Conneaut Lake) also had six kills and 11 digs. Alex Johnson (Imperial/West Allegheny) added eight kills, while junior Danielle Woods (Pittsburgh/Baldwin) posted 12 digs. Sophomore Lauren Dalton (Cochranton/Cochranton) chipped in with 10 kills and nine digs.
