Volleyball Finished Tournament Even

MARIETTA, Ohio  – Danielle Woods tallied 53 digs and Stefanie Kelley knocked down 31 kills in two matches to help the Penn State Behrend women’s volleyball team go 1-1 on the second day of the Marietta River City Classic on Saturday.

The Lions (2-2) defeated Kenyon 3-1 in their first match of the day. Behrend won 25-14 and the Ladies took game 29-27. The next two games belonged to the Lions 25-23 and 25-14. Woods recorded 27 digs and three aces, while Kelly Treser led with 11kills and eight blocks. Mary Sperry contributed nine kills and three blocks.

In the second match against the hosts, Behrend battled back from a 2-0 deficit to force a game five. Marietta took the first two games 25-11 and 25-21. Behrend easily won game three and four bys cores of 25-13 and 25-18, respectively. The Pioneers won game five 15-5 for a 3-2 victory.

Woods, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, posted 26 digs and Kelley had a double-double with 17 kills and 13 digs. Carly Higham handed out 34 assists and also added 11 digs.

The Lions is back in action on Tuesday in their home opener against Allegheny. Match time is 7 p.m.
