Lions Topple Franciscan

ERIE, Pa. – Julia Myers (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a game-high 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Penn State Behrend over Franciscan 83-44 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) women's basketball action on Saturday.

Brianna Bayly (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) tallied a career-best 13 points and seven rebounds, while Kimmy Pol (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) knocked down three triples to be the third player in double figures with 11 points for the Lions (12-2, 8-1 AMCC).

Behrend posted it largest rebounding margin (49-26) thanks to a season-best 23 offensive boards and put up more than 40 points in each half to improve to 7-0 all-time against the Barons (1-13, 1-7 AMCC).

In the first half alone, the Lions shot 51.6 percent from the floor to take a 42-25 lead at halftime.

Franciscan kept it close for the first eight minutes of the game only trailing by four points at 15-11 with 12:08 on the clock.

Sarah Schweitzer's (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) steal and eventual jumper gave the Lions their first double-digit lead that grew to 19 by the end of the half due to three-pointers by Pol and Abby Henderson (Meadville, PA/Meadville).

The Behrend bench scored 29 of the 41 points scored in the second half, including 13 off turnovers and 16 points in the paint.

Henderson finished with nine points and four assists. Schweitzer, Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) and Brittany Wilwohl (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) each registered eight points in the win.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday at Medaille. Game time is at 8 p.m.
