Myers, Wilwohl Lead Behrend Past Pitt-Greensburg

ERIE, Pa. – Brittany Wilwohl (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) scored a team-high 21 points and Julia Myers (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) added 17 points to lead Penn State Behrend past Pitt-Greensburg 78-50 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

Wilwohl and Myers each ended with 13 points after the first half. Wilwohl scored the first 13 out of 17 points for the Lions (16-4, 12-4 AMCC) while combining with Myers to put up the first 28 of the 32 points recorded in the contest.

Casey Stanton, the AMCC Preseason Player of the Year, continued to lead the Bobcats (9-13, 7-8 AMCC) with her 12th double-double of the season thanks to a game-high 22 points and 15 boards.

Behrend held Pitt-Greensburg to just 11 points in the opening half on 21.2 percent shooting, the least amount of points an opponent has scored on the Lions in the first 20 minutes of play. Wilwohl scored the first two baskets and added a three-pointer at the 16:35 mark to make it 9-0.  Myers would add two points in the paint before the Bobcats got on the board with 12:11 to play.

Myers and Wilwohl helped give Behrend a 30-11 halftime lead. In the second half, Sarah Schweitzer (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) and Natalie Corso (Moon Township, PA/Moon) came off the bench to score nine points apiece and keep the Lions ahead for good.

For the game, Behrend shot 84 percent from the free-throw line (21-for-25) and 47.5 percent from the floor. Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) was the third player in double figures with 12 points. She also tied a career high with four steals.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday at Pitt-Bradford. Game time is 8 p.m.
