BUFFALO, NY – The Medaille women's basketball team had four players in double figures and drained nine three-pointers to defeat Penn State Behrend 74-68 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Thursday night.

The Mavericks (12-4, 8-2 AMCC) evened the score with the Lions (12-3, 8-2 AMCC), after falling 69-57 earlier in the season. Alicia Montalvo went 3-for-3 from behind the arc for 18 points, while Tanisha Travis collected 16 points for Medaille.

Brittany Wilwohl (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) tied her career high with a game-best 27 points, including a perfect 7-for-7 from the line. Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) was also in double figures with 18 points.

This crucial AMCC match up was equal across the statistics board, except for the three-point field-goal line. In addition to Montalvo, Meghan Dougherty hit for three triples to make the difference and help the Mavericks snap Behrend's six game winning streak.

With 3:33 left in the first half, Medaille pulled ahead with its biggest lead of the stanza at 28-18. The Lions shot 5-for-5 from the field in the final 1:57 and got six points from Wilwohl to get within four at intermission.

The Mavericks felt the heat from Behrend in the first five minutes of the second half with the Lions getting their closest at 37-36 with 14:34 to play. From there, Medaille went on an 8-0 run to make it, 45-36.

A trey by Montalvo at the 4:07 mark gave the Mavericks a 61-48 lead with 4:07 remaining.  Behrend held Medaille to three points and attempted the comeback with scoring 10 points in just a minute. Montalvo and Emily Brophy each hit a pair of free throws in the last 11 seconds to secure the win.

The Lions return to action on Saturday at home against Penn State Altoona. Game time is 4 p.m.
