Behrend Secures No. 6 Seed in ECAC Tournament

Complete Release

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team received their second straight and ninth overall bid into the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Tournament.

The Lions are the sixth seed and will travel to third seed Waynesburg (20-7) on Wednesday night in first-round action. Game time is to be determined. Behrend, who finished the regular season with a 21-5 record, will take on the reigning South Region Champions in a rematch of last year's ECAC semifinals.

In the seven-team field, the first-round winners will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, March 3 at the highest remaining seed. The top-seeded Medaille will receive a bye and have chosen not to host the championship round.

Last season, Behrend defeated Marywood 68-65 in the opening round of the ECAC Tournament before falling in the semifinals to the Yellow Jackets, 73-59.

The Lions were cut short at a chance for their fourth Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) title this past weekend, getting knocked off by Medaille, 59-48. Behrend is looking for its third ECAC title, winning the championship in 1991-92 and 1995-96.
