Lions Dominate D'Youville, 81-32

ERIE, Pa. – For the first time this season, the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team had five players score in double figures to post an 81-32 victory over D'Youville in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday night.

The Lions (15-4, 11-3 AMCC) were led by Julia Myers (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) with a game-high 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Brittany Wilwohl (Erie, PA/Villa Maria Academy) contributed 13 points, while Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) and Natalie Corso (Moon Township, PA/Moon) each scored 12.

Hannah Norton paced the Spartans (3-17, 2-11 AMCC) with 12 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Behrend used a 26-10 run in the last 10 minutes of the first half to build a 42-15 halftime lead to mark its ninth win this season when scoring more than 70 points and allowing fewer than 50 points.

The Lions hit eight three-pointers throughout the game, including one by Sarah Schweitzer (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) for the first Behrend double-digit lead (16-5) at the 11:55 mark. The offense continuing to pour in, the defense put a stop to D'Youville and held them scoreless in the final 6:25 the first half for the commanding advantage.

The scoreless streak continued into the second stanza for the Spartans. Sara Wozniak drove in for the layup 3:20 into the half to stop the bleeding.

The Lions were going for their largest margin of victory this season, pushing the lead to as much as 52 points with 6:01 left to play, but Norton scored five of her 12 in the final 3:50 to halt the score at 81-32.

Schweitzer, who tallied a season-best two triples, was the fifth player in double digits with 10 points. As a team, Behrend shot 86.8 percent from the free-throw line (13-for-15) and held a 44-28 rebounding advantage.

The Lions return to action on Saturday against Pitt-Greensburg.  Game time is 4 p.m.
